Wear the Pink Bra!
What are we afraid of? We are over 50 now!! Yesterday was a lazy day at home. My husband wanted to go to Home Depot for some things he needed for the house. I did a quick body scan to assess if what I was wearing was acceptable. I had gone out on a limb and put on a pink bra under my white shirt.
I am not a “lightweight” in the bosom area, so these kinds of things stand out. I looked in the mirror and thought about going upstairs to change. I worried about what people would think. I worried my buxom chest would draw more attention than it usually does. After a few seconds, I decided I was too tired to go upstairs and change. Maybe not tired, but just not wanting to bother.
I took courage and hopped in the car, my white shirt with a hot pink bra shining through. I asked my husband for a quick second opinion about whether I should change. He assured me all was fine. I am very aware that he knows absolutely nothing about style, but he’s all I had. I decided to forge on.
We walked into the store, and my immediate thought was to roll my shoulders (as if that would hide my triple D’s). Then the empowering thought came to me. You are 63 (actually, it was my birthday). Tits up and be proud! Hot pink bra, big boobs, and all! I strode into that Home Depot like I was on a runway!
I watched to see if anyone was gawking. If anyone at all was glancing my way. Throughout the walk-through (of the whole store cause that’s what we do), I did not catch a single person gasping in horror, staring, or even looking at me.
As we age and become less noticed, a surprising perk emerges: freedom. There’s no need to fit in or seek approval. Wear what you want, do what you want—nobody cares! Ladies, embrace it! Wear that hot pink bra under a white shirt, dress boldly, and live as if it’s your last day—because at our age, it just might be.
